Udaipur : A sub-inspector (SI) posted at the Pratapnagar police station here, fled away from station on Friday night when he came to know that the ACB sleuths had caught his agent red handed taking bribe of rupees thirty thousand from a woman, against releasing her scooter that had been illegally seized by the SI some days ago. The woman had been accused in a theft case  who had been arrested and jailed.

When she came out on bail, she demanded her scooter back but the SI refused to do so unless she paid the bribe money of 50 thousand, authorities said. The middleman Mohammed Salim resident of Pratapnagar was produced before the ACB court here on Saturday who have been sent to judicial custody. “ We had received a complaint from Lakshmi wo Sandeep Parihar resident of Gandhinagar who said that she had been accused in a theft case some time back. SI JagdishChandra Sen had been the investigating officer in the case . Sen arrested her and even seized her scooter for no reasons and kept the vehicle in his illegal custody” Dr Rajesh Bharadwaj, additional SP-ACB told Udaipur Kiran.

The woman was sent to jail and latter released. After being freed the woman contacted the SI and requested to return her scooter but the SI threatened her that the case is yet pending and that even her husband would be booked if she didn’t give him a sum of 50 thousand rupees. The SI asked the woman to strike a deal with his close aid Saleem who conducted the dealings on the cop’s behalf. The deal was agreed at 30 thousand rupees. Meanwhile, the complainant approached the ACB and revealed the details. After verifying the conversations, the sleuths laid a trap. Lakshmi called Salim at her house on Friday night to give him the promised money and as Salim received the money, the ACB sleuths nabbed him. Salim confessed to have taken bribe on the cop’s behalf. Later they made him call the SI to tell that he had collected the payment. The SI told Salim to wait till he reached there to take the money.

The ACB team waited for the SI, however the latter smelled the danger and fled from midway. He didn’t go back to the station and had been absconding since. “ The SI had demanded the bribe for taking no more action against her and her husband in the theft case. He had even received 40 thousand rupees earlier from the woman through Salim for not using third degree in the police custody and to produce the challan at earliest” HarishChandra Singh, the circle inspector of the ACB team said. The ACB has ceiled the SI’s room at the police station and a team had been sent to locate him at his ancestral village, Bharadwaj said.

The 20-year-old Latvian stunned favourite and world number four Simona Halep 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday to become tennis’s most unlikely Grand Slam champion.

It was her first career title as she became the lowest-ranked winner in Paris, taking the trophy in just her eighth major appearance. Next up on the Grand Slam circuit is Wimbledon where Ostapenko was junior champion in 2014.

However, she admitted that when she came across a grass court for the first time, it was hardly love at first sight. “When I first played on grass I didn’t like it, I really didn’t understand it,” she told a small group of reporters following her shock Paris win as she recalled playing on grass at Roehampton in England as a 15-year-old.

“I didn’t see how people could play tennis on it. I thought grass is for soccer. But then I learned how to play on it and understood the movement. Now I really like it.”

Ostapenko said she was more than comfortable with dealing with her sudden fame which will be under a harsh spotlight when Wimbledon starts in four weeks’ time. Her home town of Riga got in the mood on Saturday when thousands of her compatriots watched her victory on a giant TV screen erected in front of the city’s iconic Freedom Monument.

Diners who post pictures along with the hashtag on social media at one of the company’s restaurants or one of several other curry restaurants in Japan also taking part in the campaign will receive a sticker depicting curry and the campaign hashtag.

Later, a portion of proceeds raised during the campaign will be donated to the Japan-India Association. In doing so, the company hopes to contribute to the continuing growth of relations between the two countries.

Mahindra Racing Puts India on Global Motorsport Map with Victory at Berlin Formula E Race

Business Wire India

  • Felix Rosenqvist wins race with home hero Nick Heidfeld in third on Day 1
  • Second place podium for Felix on Day 2 at Berlin

It was a historic weekend for Indian motorsport as Mahindra Racing won its first ever Formula E race in Berlin on June 10 with a double podium finish. Swede, Felix Rosenqvist took first place while German teammate, Nick Heidfeld came in third. Felix followed this up with a blistering second place finish in Sunday’s race, leading from start to finish, but falling back a place due to a 10 second penalty.

For Mahindra Racing, its improving results position the team as a genuine contender in the highly competitive all-electric championship with its M3Electro racecar. After two days of trophy collecting, Rosenqvist lies third in the Drivers’ Championship with Heidfeld a little further back in fifth. Mahindra Racing has further consolidated its third position in the teams’ standings and lies just 22 points shy of second-placed ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport.

Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal, Mahindra Racing Formula E Team said, “This is a moment of great pride not only for the team but for India as well! It was an amazing feeling to see the tricolor flying high on both days and hearing the Indian national anthem playing in Berlin! Felix did an amazing job both days, his driving was perfect and to put his M3Electro on a pole after winning less than 24 hours before was magnificent to watch. I will always be in awe of Nick as well. His progress through the field from 20th to the points was a master class in wheel-to-wheel racing. Now, as a team, we will look forward to preparing for the final races of the season!”

The two drivers began Saturday’s race from third and fourth positions respectively after an intense Super Pole qualifying shootout. It setup a thrilling race with both Rosenqvist and Heidfeld vying for the win from the outset. By the exit of the first corner, they had taken second and third, holding those positions until just before the optimum pit stop window.

Rosenqvist overtook competitor Lucas di Grassi for the lead at the exact halfway point of the race on lap 22. It was a lead he would not lose, despite di Grassi deploying his extra 100kJ of energy awarded by public vote in the series’ unique FanBoost initiative.

Heidfeld, wearing a special Berlin ePrix Sparco race suit created by #DrivenByDesign competition winner Tejas Manek, was able to put pressure on di Grassi in the later stages of the race. Despite not being able to overtake, third place is his third consecutive podium after Monaco and Paris last month.

On day two, Felix led from start to finish at the Tempelhof Airport circuit, however, a ten-second penalty for an unsafe release into the pit lane relegated the #19 racer to second place behind competitor Sébastien Buemi. A superb Super Pole performance saw the Swede take the second Pole Position of his short Formula E career, while a sensor malfunction in qualifying had his teammate Heidfeld start from the exact opposite end of the gird.

But Heidfeld’s progress through the field was unrivaled. Within five laps he had moved up eight positions to P12. Energy conservation and regeneration then came into play, as the race became the longest Formula E race on record and two laps longer than yesterday’s competition. Finishing in tenth provided some consolation with one championship point.

New Study Investigates the Clinical Utility of ORi™, Masimo Oxygen Reserve Index™

Business Wire India

Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI) announced today the findings of an abstract presented at the recent International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. In the study, researchers at the UC Davis School of Medicine evaluated the potential clinical utility of Masimo Oxygen Reserve Index™ (ORi™) as an early warning of arterial hemoglobin desaturation in critically ill patients.1

ORi is a relative indicator of the partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood (PaO2) in the range of 100 to 200 mmHg. ORi is intended to supplement, not replace, oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring and PaO2 measurements. As an “index” parameter with a unit-less scale between 0 and 1, ORi can be trended and has optional alarms to notify clinicians of changes in a patient’s oxygen reserve.

In the prospective, collaborative, observational study, Dr. Leonard Lee and colleagues enrolled 40 adult critically ill patients who were scheduled for elective surgical procedures requiring endotracheal intubation and planned arterial pressure monitoring catheter placement prior to induction of general anesthesia. The patients’ ORi values were measured using a Masimo Radical-7® Pulse CO-Oximeter®. The researchers recorded the time elapsed from the start of ORi alarming (triggered by decrease in the absolute value and rate of change in ORi) to 94% oxygen saturation, as well as the time elapsed from 98% to 94% saturation. The average time interval between the start of ORi alarming and 98% saturation was considered to be the average increase in warning time provided by ORi.

The researchers found that among the patients, the average time from the start of ORi alarming to 94% oxygen saturation was 80±38 seconds (ranging from 29 to 227 seconds). The average time from 98% to 94% saturation was 46±23 seconds (ranging from 12 to 108) seconds. Therefore, the average increase in warning time provided by ORi was 34±23 seconds (ranging from 4 to 119) seconds. On a percentage basis, the increase provided by ORi was 96%±92% (ranging from 5% to 479%).

The researchers concluded that the study “demonstrates the potential utility of ORi as an advanced warning of arterial desaturation and as an adjunct to SpO2.This additional warning time can potentially translate to improved patient safety by allowing earlier calls for help, assistance from a more experienced person, or modification of airway management. For this analysis we defined the advance warning to end at 98% SpO2. In clinical situations this SpO2 might not be considered to be critical. Using a lower SpO2 as the alarm level would increase the advance warning provided by ORi. Further analysis of the correlation of ORi and PaO2, the use of ORi as a guide to pre-oxygenation, and its utility in the morbidly obese are areas for future study.”

In another recent study, researchers at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas concluded that ORi could provide clinicians with a median of 31.5 seconds advanced warning of impending desaturation in pediatric patients with induced apnea after pre-oxygenation.2

ORi has not received FDA 510(k) clearance and is not available for sale in the United States.
